The lavish Neflix dramawas nominated for three Golden Globes overall -- the other two nods were Best Actress in a Television Series for Claire Foy, who also won, and Best Supporting Actor for John Lithgow, who lost to Billy Bob Thornton (Goliath).
The Crownrecently scooped a Critics' Choice award for Lithgow, and will no doubt capitalize on its Globes momentum going into awards season, with Emmys victory firmly in its sights.
As a counterpoint to the Emmys -- which often reward the same series for several years in a row -- in recent years the HFPA has recognized freshman dramas (or shows they haven't previously awarded); the last two winners in the category were Mr. Robotand The Affair,both in their first seasons.
