A Pennsylvania Republican councilman was under fire last week for posting a hoax picture on Different Rooms Between Two Women | Adult Movies OnlineFacebook that aims at tricking people into believing they can "vote at home comfortably online."
Now it has emerged that the fake image originally circulated on an alt-right, pro-Trump Reddit threat and originated on 4chan.
The image features an American flag with the suggestion on top to "Vote Hillary November 8th." At the bottom, it reads: "Simply post 'Hillary' with the hashtag #PresidentialElection on your Facebook or Twitter account between 7:00am and 9:00pm on November 8th!"

The fake poster also features a similar logo to the Democrats' election motto of "Change That Matters."
Republican councilman Joshua Lorenz, who was elected in 2015, posted the picture on Facebook and added: "More proof that the election process is rigged. Only Hillary supporters can vote from their smartphones or in the comfort of their own homes."
After Philadelphia-based outlet BillyPenn.com debunked the picture, Lorenz deleted the post and claimed that it "was clearly a joke."
“My friends understood the spirit which was intended,” he said. “This was clearly a joke. It’s a farce. It’s not exactly the only joke or farce going around on Facebook this election.”

However, Pennsylvania officials did not take the joke lightly. The governor's office released an official warning for voters:
“Governor Wolf believes discouraging anyone from having their vote legitimately counted – whether through intimidation, suppression or deception – is absolutely wrong and unacceptable,” Gov. Tom Wolf's spokesperson Jeffrey Sheridan said in a statement. “He believes any attempts to disrupt the electoral process should be investigated and prosecuted.”
But where did the picture come from?
A quick Google reverse image search shows that it surfaced in July in a thread on Reddit, r/TheDonald, which is populated by pro-Trump supporters.
According to the comments, image board 4chan was responsible for creating the image.
Naturally, users celebrated the possibility of tricking voters into thinking they could vote on Twitter or Facebook. Some suggested to "shut it down" and bookmark until the last week of October, to cause more damage among Clinton's voters.

Online voting via email, and not via social media, is available to a small number of Americans, the BBCreports.
BillyPenn.com reported that a similar meme with a picture of Clinton from a rally and the sentence “Did you know? Pennsylvania now has online voting?” with a similar font used in campaign ads also made the rounds in the state.
