The celebrity titsApp Store just blew through another record, even as Apple fights off complaints for deliberately slowing down older iPhones.

Together, iPhone and iPad users spent $300 million in the App Store on the first day of 2018 alone, Apple announced Thursday.

The company claims it set a new holiday record. "During the week starting on Christmas Eve, a record number of customers made purchases or downloaded apps from the App Store, spending over $890 million in that seven-day period," Apple said in a statement.

It's also the third year in a row Apple has bragged about New Year's Day sales records. Last year, much of that success was fueled by Nintendo's Super Mario Run, which helped push Apple's numbers to new highs of $240 million in purchases.

This year, it's less clear if there was one particular app that contributed to the App Store's new record. The top-grossing app in the App Store on January 1, was Tinder, according to data from App Annie.

Apple did, however, call out augmented reality apps that use its ARKit technology, including Pokémon Go, which was updated last month to be fully ARKit compatible. (Pokémon Go, which was #13 on the list of top-grossing apps, was also the only augmented reality app to be among the App Store's top 20 earners on New Year's Day.)

It's not just the first day of 2018 that was record-breaking for the App Store, either. In a statement, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller said developers earned $26.5 billion in 2017, an increase of more than 30 percent compared with the previous year.
