It was a change of pace for Branum, who kicked off the debate with some lighthearted tweets that included images and GIFs, and even jokingly compared Mike Pence's voice to that of a cartoon turtle.

The comedian received a great deal of backlash following the deportation tweet, with outraged Twitter users immediately responding with a flood of dissaproval and perfect reaction GIFs.

As Micaddressed, Grindr's tweet trivialized the potential reality of Trump's plan to deport immigrants. The tweet invokes white privilege and neglects to consider undocumented immigrants who identify as members of the LGBTQ community, who could face severe dangers as a result of deportation.

Following the responses on Tuesday night, Branum addressed the offensive tweet, apologizing that his "white privilege" made him feel it was okay to joke about deportation.

An hour later Branum also hopped on his personal Twitter account, where he posted a much less censored and more passionate statement about the reactions to his original tweet.
