While the sight of thousands of people on the glass looks alarming, state-run media claims that it's perfectly safe.

The People's Dailysaid that the bridge, with its 1-inch glass sheets, is rated to bear up to 3,000 kg per square meter (614.4 pounds per sq ft) -- the equivalent of four standard dairy cows on a square meter of glass.
