Users reported issues using Facebook and Instagram on Thursday morning, particularly regarding the messaging services of each platform.

Reports began around 9:30 a.m. GMT for users primarily in Europe both also in other parts of the globe, according to Down Detector (owned by Mashable's parent company, J2 Global). Instagram saw reports of issues with the news feed and direct messaging, while Facebook Messenger users reported being unable to send messages.

At the time of writing from London, UK, I'm able to use Instagram DMs but am receiving a "no internet connection" message in threads within Facebook Messenger and am unable to send messages, though my internet connection is stable.

"We are aware that some people are having trouble sending messages on Messenger, Instagram, and Workplace Chat," a Facebook company spokesperson told Mashable via email, confirming that some users are also seeing issues with Facebook's workplace collaboration platform. "We're working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible."

The areas affected, according to Down Detector, seem to be mainly focused around Europe:

UPDATE: Dec. 10, 2020, 1:06 p.m. GMT Added statement from Facebook, with confirmation of issues affecting Workplace too.

UPDATE: Dec. 10, 2020, 3:44 p.m. GMTFacebook has now resolved the issue.

"Earlier today, some people have experienced trouble sending or receiving messages on Messenger, Instagram or Workplace Chat," a Facebook company spokesperson told Mashable. "The issue has since been resolved and we apologise for any inconvenience."
