Twitter's maximum tweet length has finally been raised to 280 characters. For some users,Foreign Archives this is super exciting. For others, it's the worst thing ever to hit the Internet.
SEE ALSO: Twitter’s 280-character limit is exactly what tweets didn’t needIf you're in the latter category, you're in luck. Our friends over at Slatehave developed a new Chrome extension called "140" that will help you blissfully ignore the new Twitter for as long as you'd like.
The extension will cut every tweet on your feed down to 140 characters, and will restrict your tweets to the old limit as well. You can download it straight from the Chrome Web Store.
Original image has been replaced. Credit: Mashable After downloading and installing the extension, navigate over to Twitter. You'll immediately notice that the extension places a red "X" after the 139th character of a tweet it abridges.

Original image has been replaced. Credit: Mashable Slateunderstands that Twitter may not be happy that its users are stubbornly clinging to the past. But to fight the evil that is the 280 limit, the developers say, we must hold strong.
"The army of progress marches forever forward, burning everything good in the world and salting the earth behind it," reads the description. "But for now, use Slate's 140 to make Twitter great again."
