Before the 2016 presidential campaigns came to a close, America's newly naturalized citizens made their way to the polls to exercise their right to vote.

Touching photos captured Latino voter, and newly sworn in U.S. citizen Fabio Alvarado, 91, from El Salvador as he arrived to his polling place on Tuesday, proudly displaying his new citizenship certificate.

According to the photograph captions, Alvarado was officially appointed a citizen early on Tuesday, and in accordance with the California state law, voted hours later.

Fabio's wife, Marta became a U.S. citizen back in Sept. and registered to vote by the Oct. 24 deadline, so the day was extremely exciting for her as well.

According to NBC News, Jorge Mario-Cabrera, spokesman for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, CHIRLA said Alvarado and his wife "were so extremely disturbed" by the anti-immigrant rhetoric present in this campaign that their daughter encouraged and assisted them in obtaining their citizenship prior to the election.

The moment was so iconic that Alvarado was even serenaded by mariachi band to celebrate.

As the day went on, other heartwarming photos of brand new American citizens displaying their voting pride began to surface on Twitter.

And even if they didn't get obtain their citizenship today, many other recently naturalized citizens and their loved ones celebrated the fact that they voted in their first election by sharing stories.
