【Lady Moon】
Bethesda Softworks kicked off its E3 2018 festivities with lingering looks at a bunch of its upcoming games.
Fallout 76got the most attention,Lady Moon of course. It was announced only recently in a teasing first look, and the pressure was on Bethesda to explain what was behind its mysterious teaser. We're talked allll about that one separately.
SEE ALSO: All the best and biggest games from Xbox's E3 press conferenceBut it wasn't just the Fallout show. Rage 2got a look. So did Prey. And Doom. (And another big surprise.)
There's also an Elder Scrolls mobile game, blink-and-you'll-miss-it tease of Elder Scrolls VItease and a peek at an all-new franchise, the long-rumored outer space game, Starfield. Here they all are (plus some VR news). Enjoy.
Rage 2
Bethesda's raucous showcase kicked off with an extended look at Rage 2in action, the most comprehensive showing since May's reveal trailer. There's a little Mad Max, a little Doom, and little holy-crap-Star Wars Force powers. Explosions, too.
SEE ALSO: 'Fallout: 76' goes fully online in NovemberThe first game had so much promise but wanted for a stronger story and interesting things to do with the world. Rage 2, led by Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios, looks like it could fill in the last game's blanks.
Doom Eternal
In 2016, id Software hit reboot on the Doom series with a shiny, new-fangled first-person shooter that still managed to nail the demons, the gore, and the heavy metal hellscape vibe of the original. At E3 2018, Bethesda revealed the inevitable sequel: Doom Eternal.
SEE ALSO: 'Wolfenstein: Young Blood' brings kickass Nazi-killing to the '80sWe don't know much. Doom Eternalexists. It sends you home from Mars to fight demons on Earth. There are guns, and there are demons to shoot with them. That's it. Expect more info this summer when QuakeCon kicks off on Aug. 9.
Prey: Mooncrash
All sorts of stuff is happening with Prey. The big piece is Mooncrash, an expansion that introduces a new, replay-friendly mode where the map layouts and threats are remixed every time you play. There's also a free update that adds two new difficulty settings, an easier one that's more about exploration and a harder one that LOLno.
Both of those things are out today, so that's cool.
SEE ALSO: Amazon's Alexa playing 'Skyrim' with Keegan-Michael Key wins E3 2018Then, later this summer developer Arkane Studios will release a new PvP mode in which one hapless human takes on five human-controlled mimics that can disguise themselves as anything. It's called Typhon Hunter and it sounds super cool.
VR stuff!
No trailers here. But Bethesda has some virtual reality experiences coming around Prey and Wolfenstein.
For Prey, it comes in two pieces. First, Typhon Hunter will support VR in some how. How exactly isn't clear, but there's that. There's also a more solitary experience that's made for exploring the game's space station setting. Both will be roped into a free update for Mooncrash.
Then there's Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot. That one's set in Paris in 1980, the same time period as the upcoming Wolfeinstein: Young Blood. It's not clear how you'll play exactly, but hacking and taking control of Nazi war machines is definitely part of it.
Elder Scrolls Blades
Elder Scrolls Bladesis a made-for-mobile-but-available-for-all-platforms Elder Scrolls game. It looks like it replicates the first-person play that the series is known for, but it sends players running through randomly generated dungeons for added replay value.
There's also town-building, because no mobile game is really complete without it. E3 is a big stage to sell such a small game, but it looks like there's a lot going on with this one.
Starfield
Bethesda's first new franchise in a long, long time. Starfieldhas been the subject of rumor for ages. It's set in outer space to some extent. That's all we can say for sure right now.
Elder Scrolls VI
There was plenty of expectation for an Elder Scrolls reveal this year, but did it have to be so short? Brace yourself for... very little.
